Do paintings always have something to say?! Yes, they encourage both discussion and debate! Tu sais ce qu’elle te dit... ma concierge ?! (‘Do you know what my concierge is telling you?!’) is an anadiplosis-exhibition, in serpentine verse, based on the Portrait de ma concierge (Portrait of my Concierge’, 1922) painting by Jean Fautrier. Even though the concierge is dressed up, this portrait leans towards social realism in a style that is without arti ce and manifestly realistic, much like that of Constant Permeke. Nonetheless, it conceals a number of elements that are essential to re ecting on the physical and intellectual nature of the artwork: the interaction of colours, composition or intuition, background, form and setting, exposition and dynamics, perspective and mood; the entire subject as a series of enigmas.
